Intermediate (ages 10-12) & Senior (ages 13-18) Classes
Further developing the technical and improvisational dance skills of the 10-18-year-olds we offer classes in modern technique, creative dance and modern jazz as well as a rich opportunity to be involved in a youth dance company that performs several times per year. Students are expected to train at least two days per week if they wish to be involved in the company.
Intermediate and Senior Modern Technique
Modern classes will be rooted in a classical ballet vocabulary with a strong emphasis on torso articulation & expression. These classes will encourage alignment, form, coordination, musicality, strength, rhythm & kinetic intelligence. Live percussion accompanies each class. Taught by Janet Johnson.
Intermediate and Senior Improvisation/Composition
Students will explore improvisation and choreography. The Fall term is experimental and process-oriented, and will encourage students to take physical and creative risks through improvisation. In the winter term, students will have the opportunity to work on dance pieces that they will create and that will be created on them. All students in this class also take Modern Technique, which immediately precedes this class and acts as an essential warm-up and grounding in precision. Taught by Catrina von Radecki.

Modern Jazz
As an extension of their contemporary training, dancers are introduced to different syncopated rhythms and movement qualities. They learn to identify, repeat and mark new rhythms before embarking on the creation of personal movement phrases. Following a balanced conditioning warm up, funky combinations full of traveling steps, kicks, spins and isolations make this class both challenging and fun! Taught by Kelly Steadman.
