GYD Intensives 2024 feature outstanding guest Toronto based dance artist Nickeshia Garrick.
Nickeshia will be teaching contemporary dance, a body conditioning class and will be developing a new dance choreography.
GYDTP core staff Kelly Steadman will be teaching daily ballet classes.
Workshop descriptions:
Nickeshia Garrick’s Contemporary Dance Class is a fusion of Afro-Caribbean influence, floor work and jumps that will play on the body’s natural rhythm, focus on groundedness and self-expression and have you defying gravity with bursts of energy and flair.
Nickeshia Garrick’s Body Conditioning Class is a fusion of Pilates, Yoga and Breathwork. This class will build strength from the inside-out, challenge your stamina, push endurance, and activate your vagus nerve.
Kelly Steadman’s ballet classes are designed to compliment contemporary dance training and ultimately feel great! By actively incorporating the use of breath and promoting healthy alignment, dancers will be guided through a variety of classical forms, exploring dynamic range, rhythms and connections. Classes begin with a focused barre warm-up, engaging centre work like fun turns and travelling steps, followed by a collaborative classical creation to be shared at the end of the week.
Nickeshia Garrick is a settler on the stolen land of Tkarón:to (Toronto) and has performed on this land for over 25 years.
