Graduation Dance

September 10th, 2010

The title of our duet is reflective of the beginning of our friendship. We became inseparable on the first day of kindergarten. We’ve been looking forward to this moment since we began dancing at GYD. This duet is the calumniation of our friendship and dance experience as we transition to a new chapter in our lives. In making this duet we wanted to capture the essence of our friendship as we grew up together. Best friends does not begin to describe our relationship, it is much more than that. It is a home.

We want to thank Janet, Leslie, Kelly, and Catrina for making the past 9 years unforgettable.

Pale Blue Dot (2019)

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known. —Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot, 1994

“Ever since my first performance, as an apprentice company dancer, in the Chrysalis project I fell in love with contemporary dance. I was encouraged by the talent displayed by the older dancers and I felt motivated to work hard to one day be just like them. GYD has taught me many valuable lessons as a contemporary dancer, however my experiences in the company have not been confined to the inside of the studio. My experience at GYD has evoked creativity and inspired personal growth. Dancing in the company has given me a voice to express myself. GYD is unique because it fosters a safe and encouraging environment that stimulates every dancer’s individuality. The space that is created in the companies allows for every person to share their own perspective and to be vulnerable. I want to extend my endless gratitude to the teachers, choreographers and fellow dancers at GYD. Thank you for always inspiring me to be the best version of myself. In my time at GYD I have made life long friendships. I am left with memories to last a lifetime. What I have learned at GYD I will carry with me throughout the next stage in my life, and I believe that it will always be a part of me no matter what. I miss you already GYD!”

Kira Thompson

“I first came to GYD when I fell out of love with figure skating. I always loved performing so when I lost my passion for figure skating I still wanted to continue with it in some way, and dance seemed like the best option. Coming to GYD was the best decision I could have made. The lifelong bonds I’ve made with the other dancers and teachers along with the unique experiences and opportunities that GYD has provided me are things that I will always cherish. Without the unconditional support that GYD has provided me through the teachers, choreographers, and other dancers I would not be the person I am today. I have grown so much and I will be forever grateful for the memories I’ve made with such an amazing group of people. Thank you GYD. “
