Guelph Youth Dance History
Guelph Youth Dance was co-founded in 2005 by Janet Johnson and Catrina von Radecki as an extension of their work with Guelph Dance. They recognized a need for youth dancers to access high-quality contemporary dance training that combined technical skill with creative exploration.
Our unique approach integrates both contemporary dance technique and improvisation and composition, ensuring that every student develops holistically—body, mind, and soul.
In 2024, Janet Johnson transitioned to Denman Island, B.C., while Kelly Steadman, after 15 years of teaching and studio management, stepped into the role of co-owner with Catrina.
Currently, Kelly Steadman serves as Studio Director, Catrina von Radecki as School Director, and Tara Butler as Company Director.
Kelly, Catrina and Tara are excited to explore new collaborative opportunities and support our exceptional team of educators at GYD. Above all, they are committed to fostering kindness and care within our vibrant GYD community.
