Aussie native, Rebecca May, carries her charismatic smile and beach-town vibe wherever she teaches and performs.
Fusing her love of all dance styles and degree in psychology, Rebecca May’s classes focus on strength and fluidity, body appreciation, and expression. Her teaching method is grounded around 3 core concepts: power, control, and connection. Having danced since she was 5, Rebecca has been involved in all sorts of genres from Jazz to Classical, Ballroom to Bollywood, and Latin to Hip Hop. A diverse range in styles provided the opportunity to perform at the Coca-Cola launch in Melbourne, Sydney Hair Expo, Brisbane Salsa Solo, Newcastle night clubs, Frock on Fashion show, Westpac Helicopter appeal, private functions, and numerous other charity & corporate events. Her passion for dance led to an intense love of choreography; she was recruited by Fusion Performing Arts Australia to choreograph the 100+ Cheer squad of the Newcastle Jets (part of the Football Federation Australia’s A-league) and be the creative director.
Her career in dance took a twist when she was exposed to Salsa and Bachata at a local pub in 2011. It was a world which would pull her in and send her traveling across the globe to the USA, Canada, Croatia, Belgium, Ireland, Holland, and the UK to perform at congresses and mix her love of Hip Hop and Latin styling. After settling in Toronto, Canada, Rebecca was proud to perform for the 2015 Pan Am Games, represent Canada in Miami’s Pro-Am Latin division placing 2nd, train adult pro-am Latin competition teams, and teach couples their first wedding dance. She was the co-founder of Pivot Dance School in Mississauga before having her three young children.
With over 20 years dance teaching experience, Rebecca is excited to bring her vast talent to Guelph Youth Dance to inspire the next generation of dancers, choreographers, and teachers.
